May 2, 2022 – Arnaut Danjuma is a big question mark for his return in the Champions League semifinals between Villarreal and Liverpool. The Netherlands international forward watched from the stands last weekend and may not have recovered from his injury in time to seek a comeback with Villarreal. Liverpool won the first leg 2-0.
This was confirmed by his coach Unai Emery at the preparatory press conference. According to the coach, Danjuma is struggling with a muscle injury that forced him to stop training on Monday morning. A regular place therefore seems out of the question for Danjuma, about whom Emery will make a final decision on Tuesday. Attack partner Gerard Moreno is also in doubt.
The absence of the Dutchman would mean a huge setback for Villarreal. The striker, acquired from Bournemouth, has scored six goals in 11 Champions League appearances this season, making him the club’s top scorer from Villarreal. In La Liga, it took 25-year-old Danjuma 23 games to have ten goals.
Without Danjuma, Villarreal lost 2-1 to Deportivo Alavés last weekend. The sub-topper is currently in seventh place in La Liga.
