Qualifying at the Miami International Autodrome promised chaos beforehand, but in practice it wasn’t that bad. Okay, it shouldn’t be said too loudly to Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman crashed in final practice, after which Alpine discovered a crack in the chassis and qualifying turned out to be too early. Speaking after a 51G crash, Ocon added that he found it incomprehensible that there wasn’t one outside of Turn 14 tecpro barriers stood in place of an inexorable wall. He wasn’t alone in criticizing the track. For example, the tarmac layer has received many comments and Max Verstappen has called the slow and technical part a “Mickey Mouse piece” that doesn’t belong in Formula 1.
All these elements are covered in a new episode of the Formula 1 update. Of course, a lot of attention is also paid to the qualification itself. What was decisive and why is Verstappen still quite happy despite his mistake in Q3? This moment from Q3 seems to be linked to the difficult Friday and that is what puts Verstappen on a critical note. According to the world champion, Red Bull made more mistakes in implementation than last year and “that must not happen”. Verstappen says Red Bull made it pretty difficult for themselves in Miami.
Nevertheless, nothing is lost for the race. According to Christian Horner, the Red Bull drivers have a good car for Sunday, mainly because of the top speed. However, the first Miami Grand Prix will be colored by much more. What about the lack of long runs, the unpredictable weather conditions and whether or not you can overtake off the ideal line? This and much more is analyzed in the video at the top of this page.
