Marrakech has previously hosted four Formula E races, the last of which will be held in 2020. These races took place at Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan. The race in Morocco was also briefly on the calendar last year, but was canceled due to entry restrictions caused by the corona crisis. However, Marrakech will return to the program this year as a replacement for the E-Prix in Vancouver. The race in Canada was postponed a year due to problems with the required permits.
The return of Marrakech ensures the Formula E season continues with 16 races, the longest calendar in the history of the electric racing series. Antonio Felix da Costa won the 2020 race for DS Techeetah.
