After Russia invaded Ukraine, the International Motor Sport Federation (FIA) imposed strict restrictions on drivers from Russia and Belarus. They are only allowed to participate in international competitions if they fly a neutral flag and do not display their country’s flag in public and on social media. Smolyar is powered by SMP Racing. They stopped their program in Europe because of the strict regulations. As a result, the MP Motorsport driver must also stop working.
In a statement, Smolyar said: “I am not competing in the FIA F3 or any other international racing championship this year. I support SMP Racing’s decision to end the European program due to the FIA’s unprecedented demands on Russian drivers when competing in international competitions. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank everyone for their support during these difficult times.”
Earlier it was announced that the Haas F1 Team said goodbye to sponsor Uralkali and driver Nikita Mazepin. The Russian is replaced by Kevin Magnussen.
