April 28, 2022 – Stunt team Villarreal failed to make a fist against Liverpool on Wednesday night. After Juventus and Bayern Munich were eliminated by the Spanish underdog, the time had come this time The Reds who took a big step towards the final with a 2-0 victory. Still, Horace Danjuma and his trainer Unai Emery are hopeful.
“They played very well and it wasn’t one of the best games for us,” Danjuma summed up afterwards, as you can see at RTL† “That’s what we expected too, that they would push a lot.” Coach Emery didn’t see his plan to counter that work. “In the semifinals you play against strong opponents and our surprise effect was gone. They prevented us from controlling the game. We had to offer as much defense as we could defensively to have a chance in the second game.”
“It’s going to be a different game because we’re going to approach it differently,” continued Emery. He reckons Villarreal will still be in contention for a place in the final, trailing 2-0. “We know that they are the favourites, that they are better, but also that we can compete with them. We didn’t manage to do that today, but sometimes you have to put negative results into perspective.”
The same optimism prevailed at Danjuma. “We still have a lot to do in the second leg. We’re playing another home game. This result was disappointing, but we must not give up just yet. We won’t do that. How hard will it be? We’ll see.” All we can do is prepare as best we can to show the best possible Villarreal there. We have 90 minutes to turn things around.”
