April 25, 2022 – One more night of sleep and then the Champions League violence will break out again. After an exciting round of 16 and quarterfinals, the semifinals also promise to be spectacular. Eyes are mainly on the encounter between Manchester City and Real Madrid. According to Pep Guardiola, the Spaniards have the best papers to reach the final battle.
Guardiola has played against Real Madrid many times in his career as head coach. While he was at the helm of FC Barcelona, he clinched victories against his rivals, but lost twice to Los Blancos as Bayern Munich manager. As Manchester City manager, the Spaniard managed to win twice against Real Madrid. The Premier League leaders can therefore work towards their first meeting in the semi-finals with a good feeling. However, Guardiola does not see his team as favorites to reach the final.

Of course, that’s not very crazy. Unlike Real Madrid, Manchester City has little experience with this phase of the billion ball. The billionaire English side have only reached the semi-finals twice before, while the Madrilenians have won the tournament thirteen times. Guardiola therefore calls it an “honour” to play against Real Madrid at this stage. “You never know if we’ll ever be back here. We play against players who have often been in this position. That’s why they might have something that we don’t have,” he said, looking ahead to the first game with the Spanish record champions on Monday.
