After a trip to the Miami heat, Formula 1 returns to Europe. The Spanish Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 22nd May at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the track where Max Verstappen clinched his first ever F1 victory in 2016.
Summer is coming and that will make itself felt in Barcelona next race weekend. Free practice, qualifying and the race take place in the afternoon. Friday afternoon it will be 27 degrees, at the weekend it will be one degree warmer. The wind blows from the south and is usually moderate. There is no real chance of precipitation.
High surface temperature of the road
With a lot of sun, the temperature of the road surface rises in the direction of 50 degrees in the afternoon. The teams have to take this into account in their tire and pit stop strategy, especially on Sunday.
High solar power
The excellent prospects on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya are pleasant for the spectators, but they have to watch out for the high levels of sunshine. On all three days the sun shines in the afternoon with a UV index of 9. Unprotected skin can burn in just 10 minutes. Applying plenty of sunscreen is therefore the motto.
